In my previous post I talked about why I choose Upper Valley.  The basis for the name is we went white-water rafting on the New River in West Virginia in the 90s.  Also in one of my prior posts I talked about how Upper Valley is a relevant name when it concerns ERP/software implementing/leveraging.

This will be outlined more in another post later in the year.  But that other reason is why I also choose Upper Valley as my name.  About 15 years ago I was diagnosed with a manageable chronic illness.  For those that know me it is more on an annoyance than anything else.  It is another reason I thought Upper Valley is the right name. Still a chronic illness but manageable.

Without talking too much about it, yet, but that river rafting trip of twenty plus years ago was the basis for the name.  In the prior post I said “So why was the trip so exhilarating?  Eight of us where in a raft, and you have a paddle and you need it to brace your leg into the raft.  The trip down was calm followed by class-3 rapids followed by calm followed by class-4 rapids.  Mix a few more class 2, 3, 4, and 5s to keep it interesting.  A few other memorable parts and one of them I will discuss in a later blog.”

My journey over the past 15 years aligns with the description of the various stages of the rafting trip.  I have had rapids class 3 or 4 before the diagnoses, rapids class 5 for the years post diagnosis and every class in between for these past 15 years.

I mentioned another story about the trip where our friend James reached over the raft and pulled our friend who fell off the raft.  In my story I needed friends, family, doctors, and about twenty other individuals to pull me out of the river.

Depending on the season/water level it might be more 2 or 3, or 3 or 4.  All of these variables is the reasoning I choose Upper Valley.  So not only does Upper Valley fit the ERP & software part of my work it clearly fits my own personal story.
